Doug has always enjoyed taking on challenging work responsibilities and could be depended on to get them accomplished in a successful, detailed manner ... and on time.
Growing up on a farm, Doug learned that hard work and common sense were valuable commodities. He used those lessons as the core of his 48-year working career with two family-owned businesses in Salina.
During his work and volunteer life, Doug has been placed in many situations requiring fiscal responsibility and trust. He is proud and grateful that he could be entrusted with those duties.
"Most of Salina's growth in the past 25 years has been toward the southern area of town. However, in the past few years, it has been nice to see the downtown upgrades and revitalization projects which are creating a new, vibrant atmosphere in this great city."

Having worked with Doug on projects, I know him to be thoughtful, analytical, and capable of looking at issues from many different perspectives. He has volunteered in ways that are helpful to other people, including the Volunteer Income Tax Program for lower income families. We need his practical viewpoint and style of leadership in Salina!
Doug and I met more than 30 years ago on the YMCA racquetball courts where I discovered him to be a tenacious competitor; fair, always honest, strategic, and composed. And, always wearing KSU purple! Salina is lucky to have somebody with his intellectual gifts and genial personality willing to offer his time and talents to raise up and promote our fair city.
I have known Doug for forty years and will say that he is a serious, common sense guy. He is compassionate, loyal, and truthful in all circumstances. He knows many people in the Salina area and would be a fantastic addition to our City Commission.

I've known Doug since we were kids ... playing summer baseball together in Manhattan. Because I've always respected him for his honest, no-nonsense, straight-forward attitude in dealing with issues, I believe Doug would be a great City Commissioner. He has the integrity and sincerity to do the right thing, regardless of how difficult it may be, so clearly illustrated by his donating a kidney to a relative in need. He will dedicate himself to do a great job!
